Privacy notice
Data protection is really important to Checkmark, and we want to be clear and open about what we do with your personal data.
On this page Checkmark Ltd is referred to as ‘our’, ‘we’, and ‘us’. Also, see our company information.
If you have any queries please contact us using the contact us page.
The type of personal information we collect
We currently collect and process the following information:
When using our web-site
As with all websites, use of your IP address is required to allow the website to send you the pages it serves.
You may choose to contact us via our website in which case the personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, your IP address, name, contact details and any personal information in a message) you share will be stored by us. The booking and contact pages of the website set and use a ‘strictly necessary’ session cookie (called PHPSESSID) to operate. The cookie is removed when you close your browser windows.
We conduct limited data analysis to monitor how the website is used. This involves storing data including browser type, the geolocation of visitor IP addresses (to city/town level) and an anonymous ID based on the IP address. This is done without ‘cookie tracking’, and no personal information is recorded.
On occasion, we use Google Ads (advertising). To track how the website is used after a Google advert is clicked, we use a Google script called a GTag which sets an analytic/performance cookie called ‘_gcl_au’. It is configured to anonymise IP addresses, to avoid capturing your personal information. It expires after 3 months.
‘Cookie notification’: The site does not use cookies other than the ‘strictly necessary’ session cookie and IP address anonymised ‘analytic/performance’ cookie mentioned above. Neither of these collect your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties without your consent and therefore this website does not require a ‘cookie consent’ banner. (Hurray!)
When contacting us by other methods
If you contact us by other methods (e.g. telephone, email, face-to-face), the personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name, contact details and any personal information in a message) you share will be stored by us.
Information received from third parties
We may receive your personal information from a third party; for example, from a referral from another business or trade directory. We may use that data to contact you directly and then store as detailed above. We do not share this data with other third parties without your consent.
How we get the personal information and why we have it
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for the purposes of providing our services. We may occasionally receive your personal information from a third party as part of a referral as detailed above.
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:
(a) We have a legitimate interest.
(b) We have a contractual obligation.
(c) We have a legal obligation.
(d) Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting us.
If you believe any of the information we hold about you incorrect, please inform us using the contact link above.
How we store your personal information
Your information is securely stored as either paper or electronic records.
We keep the details of enquiries and contacts for a maximum of six months unless the enquiry or contact leads to the engagement of our services.
We keep transaction data and financial records for seven years from the last contact with us to comply with UK financial record requirement. We keep records of the services we have provided to you for the same period to allow us to provide you with a high-quality service.
Data is deleted securely. In the case of paper records this is by shredding or a secure disposal service.
Sharing information with third parties
We do not share your personal information with third parties without your consent unless required to do so by law. An example of where we might do this with your consent is where we have agreed to pass your contact details to a supplier to allow them to deliver directly to you.
