More F-gas fines - including some big names
On the 16 August, the Environment Agency released details of the £2.2 million civil penalties it has issued for F-gas regulation infringements over the period of February 2023 and August 2024.
These included 11 fines totalling over £1m to an 80 year-old man based in Kent. John Brett was a former director of Eurochem (SE) Ltd which was dissolved in 2016. He continued to trade as Eurochem (SE) and received the penalties for failing to obtain sufficient HFC quota , failing to report imports, and not record sales correctly.
Interestingly, the remaining fines include some familiar names:
- BMW (UK) Ltd
- Boeing Commercial Aviation Services Europe Limited
- EDF (EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd)
- Electrolux (Electrolux PLC and Electrolux Appliances AB)
- Fiat Chrysler Automobile UK Ltd
- Scania (Scania Great Britain Ltd - the lorry people) and
- Schmitz Cargobull (UK) Limited (you often see their lorries on the motorway).
As I have said before, at Checkmark we fully support the laws affecting purchase, sale and handling of F-gases. We think the Earth’s atmosphere should be protected.
